Treyvontae Ellis, a 20-year-old male from Kankakee, Illinois, tragically lost his life in a mass shooting at a New Year's party in Kankakee on January 1, 2025. The incident occurred inside a home on Pierson Parkway, where approximately 50 people had gathered to celebrate the arrival of the new year. Shots were fired around 4 a.m., leading to chaos as attendees fled the scene. Authorities arrived to find multiple victims suffering from gunshot wounds.
Among those killed was Treyvontae Ellis, along with his 22-year-old brother, Quaysean T. Isom. Five other individuals, including three women, sustained injuries but were expected to survive.
Law enforcement officials reported that the shooting involved multiple individuals firing inside the house, with over 30 rounds discharged. Officers recovered two firearms outside the residence and detained a teenager who was found hiding in the backyard along a fence. A firearm was also discovered near the location where the teenager was apprehended. Despite these developments, no charges had been filed at the time, and authorities had yet to determine a motive for the attack.
Kankakee Mayor Chris Curtis expressed deep sorrow over the incident, noting that the city had made significant progress in reducing violent crime, with shootings decreasing by 53% over the past three years. The mayor emphasized the dedication of the local detective bureau, stating that investigators were working tirelessly to uncover the circumstances surrounding the shooting. Officials urged anyone with information to come forward to assist in the ongoing investigation.
