A tragic and violent altercation on a Michigan interstate claimed the life of 19-year-old Alvin 'Lil Mark' Johnson of Saint Clair Shores. The African American male was fatally wounded on the afternoon of April 26, 2025, during what authorities described as a gunfight between the occupants of two vehicles traveling on Interstate 94. Johnson was a former offensive lineman for the Harper Woods High School football team, remembered by his family for his love of the sport and his deep affection for
his relatives.
The incident unfolded around 1 p.m. near 10 Mile Road when shots were exchanged between a black Chevrolet Malibu, in which Johnson was a passenger, and a silver vehicle. In the midst of the gunfire, the Malibu collided with a GMC Acadia, causing both vehicles to pull over to the shoulder of the highway. The silver vehicle, however, continued eastbound at a high rate of speed and fled the scene.
Following the crash, one of the passengers from the Malibu was witnessed carrying a pistol up an embankment and discarding it before returning to the car. Investigators later recovered a 9 mm Glock 19, modified with a switch, from the area. Two individuals from the Malibu, including Johnson, were transported to a local hospital for medical treatment. Johnson ultimately succumbed to his injuries. The freeway was shut down for several hours as Michigan State Police conducted their investigation into the shooting.
In the wake of the shooting, Johnson's family organized a GoFundMe campaign to assist with his burial expenses. As of now, authorities have not publicly identified any suspects or made any arrests in connection with the fatal shooting. The investigation remains active, and police have urged anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward with information.
