James Newman, a 53-year-old male, was one of two victims in a fatal shooting that occurred in the Seventh Ward of New Orleans on the night of April 9, 2025. Officers from the New Orleans Police Department responded to reports of gunfire in the 1700 block of Rousselin Street at approximately 11:50 p.m. Upon arrival, they discovered Newman and another victim, 73-year-old William Shoop, suffering from gunshot wounds.
