In the spring of 2025, a quiet street in New Orleans was shattered by a violent act that claimed the life of 53-year-old James E. Newman. On April 10th, Newman and his 73-year-old roommate, William Shoop, were found shot inside their home on Rousselin Drive. Both men were rushed to a local hospital, but their injuries proved to be fatal. The tragedy that unfolded in their Seventh Ward residence would soon lead to a tense standoff in the heart of the city's famed French Quarter.
