Eduardo Gamez, a 43-year-old man, was found fatally shot in his vehicle on January 14, 2025, in the Gage Park neighborhood of Chicago. Officers responded to a call about a suspicious vehicle around 10:30 p.m. in the 5600 block of South California Avenue. Upon arrival, they discovered Gamez behind the wheel of a car riddled with bullet holes. He had suffered a gunshot wound to his abdomen and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Cook County medical examiner’s office confirmed his identity and cause of death.
Surveillance footage later revealed that Gamez’s vehicle had been parked in the area for nearly two and a half hours before police arrived. Investigators determined that the shooting was not random but targeted. Authorities soon identified a suspect, Christopher Paredes, who had previously been granted probation for a weapons-related offense. Paredes had violated his probation twice, with the second violation being the fatal shooting of Gamez.
Prosecutors presented evidence linking Paredes to the crime, including surveillance footage capturing the shooting, his vehicle, and his movements. Additionally, search warrants executed on Paredes’s phone and residence uncovered internet searches related to the murder and a firearm consistent with shell casings found at the crime scene. As a result, Paredes was charged with first-degree murder and detained as a public safety risk. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities continue to gather further evidence.
