Nurrie Foy, 28, male, Black/African American, died on August 21, 2025, after he was shot on Chicago’s West Side. Around 10:09–10:10 p.m., he and another man were standing outside in the 300 block of South Maplewood Avenue when someone walked up and opened fire. Foy was struck in the left and right flank, taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, and pronounced dead. The Cook County medical examiner identified him, and police described the shooter as a male who approached on foot.
That attack was the first of two linked shootings that night in the broader East Garfield Park/Near West Side area. The other victim at the Maplewood scene, 38-year-old Deandre Russell, was taken to Stroger Hospital and also died. Less than an hour later, gunfire on the 3900 block of West Gladys Avenue killed 27-year-old Tia Bell and wounded at least one other person, according to police and the medical examiner.
As of the immediate aftermath, no arrests had been made. Area Four detectives were investigating, and authorities had not announced any charges or released a more detailed suspect description beyond noting the assailant approached on foot before firing.
