On what should have been a celebratory week for 18-year-old Jarvis Brister Jr., a promising young Black / African American male from Amite, Louisiana, his life was tragically cut short. Just days before he was set to graduate from St. Helena High School, with a full-ride scholarship to Virginia University at Lynchburg awaiting him, Brister was fatally wounded in a double shooting on May 5, 2025. He passed away from his injuries on Wednesday, May 7, 2025.
