Summary based on 1 source
On the last day of February in 1982, 41-year-old Laurence Arthur Peterson and his friend, Randolph Johanson, were last seen departing from the Shelter Island Marina in British Columbia. Their plan was to make the journey to Lund, a small coastal village. The two men were on separate vessels; Johanson was at the helm of his 26-foot salvage tugboat, towing Peterson's larger 43-foot wooden halibut fishing vessel. This departure from the marina would be the last confirmed sighting of either man.

Concerns for their safety arose when they failed to arrive at their destination in Lund as planned. On March 3, 1982, Johanson’s girlfriend officially reported both men as missing to the Richmond RCMP. This report triggered what has been described as an extensive search of the area. Despite these efforts, no trace of Peterson, Johanson, or their boats was ever found. The complete and utter disappearance of two men and two vessels from the waters of British Columbia left a void of information and a lingering sense of uncertainty.

In the absence of any physical evidence or wreckage, the investigation into the disappearance of Laurence Peterson and Randolph Johanson has been fraught with challenges. Over the years, speculation has arisen that the two men may have intentionally vanished to start new lives. However, this theory remains just one of several possibilities in a case with no concrete answers. The official investigation, handled by the Richmond RCMP, has not yielded any definitive conclusions. The case of Laurence Peterson and Randolph Johanson remains an unsolved mystery, a poignant narrative of two men who set out on a routine journey and were never seen again, leaving their families and friends with unanswered questions that have endured for decades.

Last Seen: Feb 28, 1982
