Shante Porter, a 37-year-old woman, was fatally shot during an argument inside an apartment in the Englewood neighborhood of Chicago. The incident occurred on the evening of January 31, 2025, at approximately 8:30 p.m. in the 5600 block of South Emerald Avenue. Porter was engaged in a dispute with an individual she knew when the person pulled out a handgun and shot her in the stomach.
Emergency responders transported her to the University of Chicago Medical Center in critical condition, but she was pronounced dead early the following morning.
Chicago police confirmed that the suspected gunman was taken into custody at the scene. Authorities also recovered the firearm used in the shooting. As of the latest reports, charges against the suspect were still pending while detectives continued their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
