Heaven Sutton, a 7-year-old African American girl, was tragically killed on June 27, 2012, in Chicago, Illinois. Heaven was standing outside her home in the Austin neighborhood, helping her mother run a makeshift candy stand, when she was struck by a stray bullet during a gang-related shooting. The incident occurred as two gunmen opened fire on rival gang members, with one of the bullets hitting Heaven in the back as she tried to flee the gunfire.
