Meagan M. Bilbo, a 19-year-old woman from Chicago, Illinois, tragically lost her life on December 5, 2021. Meagan, who was attending a party at an illegal nightclub in Jefferson Park, was shot in the chest by a masked individual who opened fire outside the venue. The nightclub, which was operating under the guise of a computer repair shop, was located in the 4800 block of North Central Avenue. The shooting occurred around 4:30 a.m.
as Meagan and her 22-year-old boyfriend were exiting the building through a back door. Her boyfriend was shot in the abdomen, and another 23-year-old man was also wounded in the abdomen and leg. Both men were critically injured but survived the attack.
The investigation into Meagan's death led to the arrest of Rusten Relucio, a 27-year-old man who was charged with murder and aggravated battery. Prosecutors connected Relucio to the crime through surveillance footage and cell phone records. The footage showed Relucio's distinctive clothing and a skull tattoo on his left hand, which was missing several fingers. He was seen exiting a Dodge Durango at a gas station near the club about an hour before the shooting. The same vehicle was later spotted near the club just before the shots were fired. Relucio's phone records also placed him in the area at the time of the shooting.
During a court hearing, Relucio's defense attorney argued that the allegations were inconsistent with his client's character, noting that Relucio had no prior violent criminal history. Despite this, the evidence presented by the prosecution was compelling enough for the judge to deny bail. The motive for the shooting remains unclear, but the case against Relucio is ongoing, with further court proceedings scheduled.
