In the early morning hours of Sunday, January 12, 2025, a sense of unease settled over the Magnolia Acres apartment complex in Waynesboro, Georgia. The quiet of the pre-dawn was shattered by the sound of gunshots, prompting a call to the Waynesboro Police Department at approximately 4:20 a.m. a call that would unravel a story of violence and loss. Responding officers initially found no evidence of a shooting near the mailboxes where the sounds were reported. However, a second call just twenty minutes later would lead them to a grim discovery.
Inside a family member's apartment, they found 36-year-old Raynard Tamario Ellison unresponsive, suffering from a gunshot wound to his chest. Officers, including Raymond Orzechowski and Lt. Gregg Stroud, immediately began life-saving measures, performing CPR until medics arrived. Despite their efforts and being rushed to Burke Health, Ellison succumbed to his injury and was pronounced dead at 5:42 a.m.
In the immediate aftermath, the investigation quickly focused on two individuals of interest: Julian Titorian Bright and, in a surprising turn, Ellison's own mother, Melissa Ellison. The community was left to grapple with the shocking possibility of a mother's involvement in her son's death. However, as the investigation progressed, Melissa Ellison was cleared of any wrongdoing, leaving Julian Bright as the primary suspect.
Later that same day, in a significant development, Julian Titorian Bright turned himself into the Waynesboro Police Department. He was subsequently arrested and charged with Murder and Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Crime.
