In the quiet, rural landscape of Bourbon County, Kentucky, the life of 20-year-old Dixieana Brainard was tragically cut short on April 3, 2025. A young mother, she was found deceased in a residence on Big Stoner Road, the victim of a brutal act of violence that also claimed the life of 24-year-old Charles 'Chuckie' Callaway. The events of that day painted a grim picture of domestic violence, jealousy, and rage.
Dixieana, a graduate of Bourbon County High School and a beloved mother to
her infant son, Kayce, was discovered to have been shot in the forehead. Her relationship with the father of her child, 19-year-old Christopher Taulbee, had a history of turmoil. In the time leading up to her death, Dixieana had started a new relationship with Charles Callaway, a kind-hearted man who was helping her raise her son. This new chapter in her life was violently ended when Taulbee arrived at the home.
The investigation into the double homicide quickly pointed to Christopher Taulbee as the primary suspect. Police located him on the side of a road, naked and covered in blood, inside a damaged vehicle. The evidence against him was substantial, including a confession to the crimes. According to law enforcement, Taulbee first shot Dixieana. He then pursued Charles Callaway, who had fled into a nearby field, where he stabbed and beat him to death with a baseball bat. In a particularly chilling detail, it was reported that Taulbee left the scene and returned with a witness, at which point he struck Callaway again with the bat.
Following his arrest, Christopher Taulbee was charged with two counts of murder. The community was left to mourn the loss of two young lives, with friends and family remembering Dixieana as a loving mother with a radiant smile and an infectious personality. The tragic events of that day left a lasting scar on the community, highlighting the devastating consequences of domestic violence.
