In the early hours of April 8, 2025, the life of 37-year-old Robert Michael Auter, Jr. was tragically cut short in a violent encounter in Louisville, Kentucky. A city employee known for his strong work ethic, Robert was found by Louisville Metro Police officers inside a residence on Griffiths Avenue in the Portland neighborhood, suffering from gunshot wounds.
The police were responding to reports of gunfire that shattered the predawn quiet shortly before 5 a.m.
Upon their arrival, officers discovered a grim scene. Robert was not the only victim. Alongside him were Mallory Cox, also 37, and 49-year-old David Clark Jr. All three individuals had been shot and were pronounced dead at the scene by the Jefferson County Coroner's Office. The incident marked the third triple homicide in the county for the year, leaving the community shaken and searching for answers.
In the days that followed, an investigation into the killings began to unfold. Authorities received approximately 30 tips from the public, with a significant number of them pointing towards a single individual. This led investigators to 29-year-old Kody Warf, who was subsequently arrested and charged with three counts of murder, as well as possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. While the nature of the relationship between Warf and the victims was not publicly disclosed, authorities indicated that they were acquainted.
Robert, born on January 24, 1988, was remembered for his infectious energy and sense of humor. He had a passion for fishing, gambling, and working on his treasured 1981 Buick Regal. A beloved father to his three children, Emily, Ava, and Robert III, and a doting grandfather, he was also a cherished brother and grandson. His mischievous nature and love for his dog, Bitty, were fondly recalled by those who knew him best. The arrest of a suspect marked a significant step for a family and community mourning a sudden and profound loss.
