On December 30th, 2024, at approximately 5:00 PM, the body of 61-year-old male Paul Colombo was discovered near the parking lot of the Boca Plaza Hotel at 2901 N Federal Highway in Boca Raton, Florida. A hotel employee made the initial discovery, finding Colombo's body wrapped in a blanket in the bushes with visible blood present. Upon arrival, Boca Raton Police officers secured the scene and called in detectives and the Medical Examiner's Office.
Further investigation revealed that
Colombo had been a previous guest at the hotel but had checked out several days prior to his death. The hotel staff had been holding his luggage as a courtesy. When examining the scene, investigators found that Colombo had sustained a gunshot wound to the head, and a firearm was discovered within the blanket that wrapped his body. After speaking with family members and gathering additional evidence, investigators determined the death was the result of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Originally from Detroit, Michigan, Colombo had relocated to Cape Coral, Florida, where he rekindled his passion for water, sunshine, and deep-water fishing. Throughout his life, he was known as a fishing enthusiast and seasoned boater, skilled at navigating both freshwater and ocean waters. He left behind two daughters, Samantha Colombo and Christina St. Cyr, as well as extended family including his brother Andre Colombo, sisters Kathleen Colombo and Gina Rimanelli, and several nieces and nephews.
No arrests were made in connection with this case, as investigators concluded there was no criminal involvement in Colombo's death. The Boca Raton Police Department initially labeled the death as suspicious in nature but later confirmed there was no threat to public safety.
