On December 28, 1981, Deane had left Bacchus, a Fort Lauderdale club, to return home. A neighbor heard loud music later that night and interacted with Deane, who then turned down the volume. Deane's friends, concerned after not hearing from him, went to check on him days later. They discovered his body with multiple stab wounds in the master bedroom.
