In the quiet community of Georgetown, Kentucky, the life of 22-year-old Christian Eugene Best was tragically cut short on the night of Friday, April 11, 2025. A graduate of Scott County High School, he was known for his enjoyment of drawing, archery, and anything that took him outdoors. He also loved relaxing with his sister while watching superhero movies.
On that Friday night, in the area of Thorndale Drive and Paris Pike, Christian was found inside a car with a fatal gunshot wound.
The Scott County Coroner's office was called to the scene, and a homicide investigation was promptly launched by the Georgetown Police Department. The news of the young man's violent death sent ripples of concern through the local community.
The investigation swiftly led to a person of interest. Early on Sunday morning, just two days after the fatal shooting, Georgetown police arrested 20-year-old Ezekiel Hofsteader in connection with the death. Hofsteader was taken into custody and lodged in the Scott County Detention Center.
Authorities charged Hofsteader with reckless homicide, indicating that they believe Best's death was the result of fatally reckless behavior. In addition to the homicide charge, Hofsteader also faced charges of possession of marijuana and buying or possessing drug paraphernalia. The arrest brought a swift, though somber, development to the case, leaving a family and community to mourn the loss of a young man.
