On the evening of January 23, 2016, the life of 24-year-old Jeremiah Otaveous Washington was tragically cut short in Georgetown, Kentucky. Responding to reports of gunfire at approximately 7:30 p.m., Scott County Sheriff's deputies arrived at a residence on Tipps Lane to find Washington lying in the driveway with two gunshot wounds to his chest. Despite immediate medical attention and being rushed to Georgetown Community Hospital, he was pronounced dead. An autopsy was scheduled to be performed at the state medical examiner's office in Frankfort.
The initial investigation into Washington's death pointed to a targeted attack. Witnesses at the scene described seeing two men assault Washington before shooting him. The suspects were described as being tall, between 6-foot-2 and 6-foot-4, with one having dreadlocks and the other wearing a red sports jacket. After the shooting, the two men were seen fleeing the scene in a red four-door vehicle, possibly a Dodge or a Chrysler. Authorities believed Washington had been spending time in the Lexington area prior to his death.
