In a tragic incident in Georgetown, Kentucky, a man lost his life in his own home. On Sunday, April 7, 2019, 47-year-old Michael Ray Smith was fatally shot. The shooting occurred in the morning, around 10:30 a.m., at a residence on Long Lick Road. At the time of the incident, there were seven family members inside the house, including five juveniles.
The event that led to the shooting was reportedly an argument.
Following the dispute, a 17-year-old male, who was a family member, is accused of shooting Michael Ray Smith. Smith's mother later confirmed that her oldest son had been shot and killed by his own 17-year-old son.
The teenage suspect was subsequently arrested and faced multiple charges, including murder, wanton endangerment, and being a minor in possession of a firearm. Following the incident, the other children who were in the home at the time were turned over to the Cabinet of Family Services. Michael Ray Smith was born on January 16, 1972, in McDowell, Kentucky.
