On a late Saturday morning in Seattle, Washington, on January 26, 2019, a tragic and fatal encounter unfolded aboard a King County Metro bus. The incident, which occurred around 11:15 a.m. near the intersection of 4th Avenue South and South Walker Street, resulted in the death of 51-year-old Ronnie Tyler. Tyler, a male, became involved in a heated altercation with another passenger, an 88-year-old man named Roger Mize.
The dispute reportedly began when Tyler shoved Mize as Mize was
attempting to board the bus. The situation escalated dramatically when Mize drew a firearm. In the ensuing confrontation, Mize was seen on bus surveillance footage pistol-whipping Tyler before shooting him once in the abdomen. Both men were transported to Harborview Medical Center for their injuries. Later that night, Ronnie Tyler succumbed to the single gunshot wound. The King County Medical Examiner's Office officially ruled his death a homicide.
Following an investigation by the Seattle police, who reviewed the video footage from the bus, Roger Mize was arrested and charged with first-degree manslaughter.
