On January 26, 2025, at approximately 6:12 p.m., Xavier Williams, a 35-year-old male from Miami, was fatally shot on Interstate 95 in Oakland Park, Florida. The incident occurred in the southbound lanes north of Oakland Park Boulevard following an altercation at a residence in Pompano Beach.
According to detectives from the Broward Sheriff's Office Homicide Unit, the events began with a physical dispute between Williams and an adult female at a Pompano Beach location.
After the dispute, the female left the scene with another adult male. The situation escalated when, at some point on I-95, the adult male accompanying the woman discharged his weapon, striking Williams. Emergency responders, including Broward Sheriff's Office Oakland Park District deputies, Florida Highway Patrol troopers, Oakland Park Fire Rescue, and the Fort Lauderdale Police Department, arrived at the scene and found Williams with gunshot wounds.
Williams was transported by paramedics to Broward Health Medical Center, where he was pronounced deceased. The shooter remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators, presenting a claim of self-defense during questioning. The adult male's identity has been temporarily withheld by authorities.
The case remains under investigation by the Broward Sheriff's Office Homicide Unit, led by Detective K. Luna and Sergeant P. Reynolds. Upon completion of the investigation, the case will be presented to the Broward County State Attorney's Office, which will determine whether criminal charges will be filed against the shooter.
