In a tragic and disturbing incident in Fort Wayne, Indiana, a young Black male, 23-year-old Taurean Malik Hayden, lost his life on March 5, 2025. The events that led to the discovery of his body began to unfold around 10:48 a.m. in the 4900 block of Halsley Court. Residents in the normally quiet neighborhood were alarmed by the sight of a naked man, later identified as 43-year-old Taurean Latheef Hayden, walking around the area and pointing a handgun at people.

County Sheriff's Department responded to the scene and, after a brief confrontation, were able to take the armed man into custody by deploying a Taser. While being arrested, the elder Hayden made statements to the officers that he had shot someone inside his residence. This prompted the deputies to conduct a welfare check at the home, where they made the grim discovery of a deceased individual. The victim was soon identified as Taurean Malik Hayden, the son of the suspect.
The Allen County Coroner's Office later confirmed that the cause of death was multiple gunshot wounds and ruled the manner of death a homicide. According to court documents, the motive for the fatal shooting appeared to be a dispute over money. During an interview with investigators, Taurean Latheef Hayden allegedly admitted to shooting his son in the head because his son owed him money. He also reportedly confessed to having used a significant amount of fentanyl that morning. Surveillance footage from the residence captured both father and son exiting and re-entering the house, with the elder Hayden later emerging alone with a handgun.
Following the incident, Taurean Latheef Hayden was arrested and charged with murder. He is being held at the Allen County Jail without bond. The case is currently under investigation by the Allen County Sheriff's Department, the Allen County Prosecutor's Office, and the Allen County Coroner's Office. It was also revealed that at the time of his arrest, the elder Hayden was on supervised release for a prior federal offense and had pending requests for early termination of that supervision, which were subsequently denied given the new murder charge.
