In the early morning hours of Sunday, April 13, 2025, the life of Kamari Daquan Taylor, a 23-year-old Black male from Fort Wayne, Indiana, was tragically cut short. Kamari, born on November 19, 2001, was known for his unique style and his love for family and friends. A 2020 graduate of Wayne High School, he possessed a smooth and laid-back sense of humor that endeared him to many.
His family was the center of his life, and he cherished the time he spent with them.
On that Sunday, around 5:45 a.m., events unfolded in downtown Fort Wayne at the intersection of South Monroe and East Wayne Streets that would end in his death. Officers who responded to the scene found Kamari suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite the efforts of paramedics, he was pronounced dead at the scene. The Allen County Coroner's Office would later confirm that his death was a homicide caused by these injuries, marking him as the 12th homicide victim in Allen County for the year.
The investigation into the shooting quickly identified a suspect, 26-year-old Isaiah Wilson. According to some witness accounts, Wilson may have been experiencing a 'mental episode' and was possibly under the influence of drugs. Court documents later revealed that Kamari was attempting to help Wilson during this apparent crisis when the situation turned fatal. Surveillance footage reportedly captured images of the gunman chasing Kamari before the shooting occurred. The Fort Wayne Police Department issued a warrant for Wilson's arrest, warning the public that he should be considered armed and dangerous.
After a month-long search, Isaiah Wilson was located and apprehended by the U.S. Marshals Service in Jackson County, Michigan, on May 14, 2025. He was taken into custody and is being held in the Jackson County Jail in connection with the murder of Kamari Daquan Taylor, bringing a measure of progress to a case that began with a young man trying to lend a hand and ended in a senseless tragedy.
