Lamond Rashod Goodier, a 20-year-old Black man from Fort Wayne, Indiana, died after a disturbance erupted at a Shell gas station during the early morning hours of July 5, 2026. At approximately 3:00 a.m., Fort Wayne police were dispatched to the station at 1923 Broadway, near the intersection of Broadway and Taylor Street, following reports of a confrontation involving an armed person.
Before officers reached the gas station, Goodier and another injured person were taken to a local
hospital by private transportation. Goodier had suffered a gunshot wound to the head and was listed in life-threatening condition. Despite efforts to save him, he was pronounced dead at the hospital. The other person’s injuries were described as non-life-threatening.
Homicide detectives began interviewing witnesses, reviewing available surveillance recordings and collecting evidence from the gas station. The Fort Wayne Police Department’s Crime Scene Unit documented the area, while other police resources assisted with the investigation. The Allen County Coroner’s Office later ruled Goodier’s death a homicide and identified it as the 19th homicide recorded in Fort Wayne and Allen County during 2026.
Investigators identified Cameron Mikell as the alleged shooter. On the evening of July 6, members of the Fort Wayne Police Department Homicide Task Force located Mikell near the intersection of Bluffton Road and Lower Huntington Road. He was taken into custody and transported to the Allen County Jail.
Mikell was preliminarily charged with murder and unlawful possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon. Reports identified the firearm offense as a Level 5 felony, while murder is the principal charge connected to Goodier’s death. Mikell has reportedly claimed that he fired while protecting his wife, but that assertion remains subject to examination through the criminal court process and does not represent a judicial finding.
The investigation remains active under the Fort Wayne Police Department, the Allen County Prosecutor’s Office and the Allen County Coroner’s Office. No trial or conviction had been reported, and the charges against Mikell remained allegations pending prosecution.
