On the afternoon of March 27, 2025, 13-year-old African American male Derron Woody was fatally shot in Decatur, Georgia. The incident occurred around 4:30 p.m. on the 4800 block of Glenwood Road, following an altercation that escalated into gunfire. Derron, a seventh-grade student at Bethune Middle School and former student of DeKalb Alternative School, was transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
