Leona Smith, a 74-year-old woman from Barney, Georgia, was found dead on April 11, 2025, in what authorities have classified as a homicide. The Brooks County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call at approximately 5:45 a.m. at a residence on Robinson Road in Barney, where they discovered Smith had suffered a fatal gunshot wound. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation was immediately brought in to assist with the case.
