In the small city of Thomson, Georgia, the life of 42-year-old Mario Deangelo Mozzy Clemons, a beloved male figure known for his generous spirit and love for his family, was tragically cut short. On the evening of April 13, 2025, law enforcement and emergency services were called to a residence on Ridgeview Drive, where they discovered Clemons's body behind the home. He had sustained a single gunshot wound.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation was brought in to lead the homicide investigation. In the days that followed, authorities identified a suspect: 43-year-old Devicco LaTroy Moss, also from Thomson. The investigation progressed, and on April 24, 2025, a multi-agency team, including the GBI and the Richmond County SWAT, moved to execute a search warrant at Moss's home on Faubus Street.
As officers approached the residence, Moss made a desperate attempt to escape, speeding away in a blue Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck. A high-speed chase ensued through the streets of Thomson. The pursuit came to a dramatic and fatal end when Moss's truck collided with a tractor-trailer at the intersection of Ridge Road and Washington Highway. Moss was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. During the chase, a Motor Carrier Compliance Division officer's patrol car also crashed, and the officer was taken to a local hospital for evaluation.
The death of the sole suspect in Mario Clemons's murder brought a sudden and violent conclusion to the manhunt. The GBI confirmed that an autopsy would be performed on Moss's body. The investigation into Clemons's death remains ongoing, leaving a community to grapple with the loss of a man described as having a heart of gold and the dramatic turn of events that led to the death of his suspected killer.
