In the late hours of April 30, 2025, a fatal altercation unfolded in front of a home on Maple Street in Manchester, Georgia, claiming the life of 29-year-old Shawn Jackson Jr. of Fayetteville. Emergency services were dispatched to the residence around midnight following reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, Manchester Police officers discovered Jackson had sustained a gunshot wound. Despite immediate attention, he succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
The preliminary investigation by law enforcement indicated that the shooting stemmed from an argument between two individuals. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation was called in to assist the Manchester Police Department with the homicide case. Their investigation quickly identified a primary suspect, leading to a public call for assistance in locating him.
In the weeks that followed, the investigation led to the arrests of three individuals. With the help of the U.S. Marshals Service and the Harris County Sheriff's Office, the GBI apprehended 21-year-old Kimani Copeland of Manchester. He was subsequently charged with murder and aggravated assault in connection with Shawn Jackson Jr.'s death. Two other individuals, 22-year-old De'Qavious Copeland and 25-year-old Arionne Leonard, both of Waverly Hall, were also taken into custody. They face charges of hindering the apprehension or punishment of a criminal. Kimani Copeland was initially booked into the Harris County Jail before being transferred to the Meriwether County Jail, while De'Qavious Copeland and Arionne Leonard were booked into the Harris County Jail. The case is expected to be handed over to the Coweta Judicial Circuit District Attorney's Office for prosecution.
