In the late hours of a summer evening in Manchester, Georgia, a dispute turned deadly, claiming the life of 24-year-old K'mrye Jernard Couch. On August 2, 2019, near Trigville Street, an altercation led to gunfire, and Couch was fatally wounded. He was quickly taken from the scene to Warm Springs Medical Center by an associate, but his injuries proved to be too severe, and he was pronounced deceased by a doctor at the hospital.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation was called in by the Manchester Police Department to lead the homicide investigation. The inquiry into the shooting moved swiftly. Just days after the incident, on August 5, 2019, authorities made an arrest in connection with Couch's death.
Investigators identified Zy'Kevious D. Copeland, a 19-year-old from the nearby town of Warm Springs, as the suspect. Copeland was taken into custody without incident in Manchester. The investigation was a collaborative effort involving the GBI, the Meriwether County Sheriff's Office, the Manchester Police Department, the Georgia State Patrol, and the GBI Gang Task Force.
