A teenage girl is killed while sleeping In the early morning hours of December 9, 2012, a tragedy unfolded in Omaha, Nebraska, that forever altered the lives of a local family. Eighteen-year-old TreVeona Smith, an African-American female, was sleeping at her grandmother's house near 42nd and Brown streets when gunfire erupted from outside the residence. A bullet pierced through the window and struck the promising high school senior, inflicting a fatal wound. She was rushed to a nearby hospital but ultimately succumbed to her injuries.
