In the cold of a January night in Omaha, Nebraska, the life of 23-year-old Ashlyn Higgins, a Caucasian female, was tragically cut short. On January 26, 2017, Higgins was fatally wounded in a shooting that also left a man, Parris Stamps, injured. The incident unfolded in an apartment, leaving behind a scene of violence and a community in shock.

The initial investigation into the homicide led Omaha police to a suspect, Ja-uon Brown. He was arrested and faced a charge of first-degree murder ...
