On December 22, 2021, 14-year-old Isabella Santiago was killed in a tragic shooting incident in Omaha, Nebraska. She was a backseat passenger in a vehicle when another car, driven by Samuel Lopez, pulled up beside them. Christian X. Hernandez, a 16-year-old rear seat passenger in Lopez' vehicle, allegedly fired ten gunshots towards the occupied car. Santiago was struck by the gunfire and succumbed to her injuries.
