In the early moments of a Monday morning, just after midnight on February 24, 2025, the sound of gunshots shattered the quiet in the 1600 block of Benning Road, Northeast, in Washington, D.C. When Fifth District officers arrived at the scene near the Hechinger Mall, they discovered a man suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. He was unconscious and not breathing.
Emergency medical services were dispatched to the location, but despite their life-saving efforts, the man was pronounced
deceased. The victim was later identified as 48-year-old Larry Evans of Northwest, D.C. The Metropolitan Police Department is actively investigating his death as a homicide and has reached out to the public for any information that might lead to the apprehension of those responsible.
In the course of their investigation, authorities have reviewed surveillance footage from the area which captured a suspect fleeing the scene in a light-colored sedan. As of now, no arrests have been announced in connection with the fatal shooting of Larry Evans. The police are offering a reward of up to $25,000 for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for this crime.
