Leaotis Boyd Martin Jr., a 27-year-old man from San Francisco, was fatally shot on April 14, 2025, in the Tenderloin neighborhood of the city. The shooting occurred at approximately 5:30 p.m. near Turk and Mason streets, just north of Market Street. First responders attempted life-saving measures, but Martin was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities quickly arrested a suspect, identified as 23-year-old Lewis Jefferson Butler.
Butler was booked into county jail on suspicion of homicide, being a felon in possession of a firearm, battery on a peace officer, resisting arrest, and an outstanding warrant from Alameda County. Witnesses reported seeing the suspect flee into The Warfield theater before being apprehended by police.
The San Francisco Police Department's homicide detail is leading the investigation. However, officials have not disclosed any details regarding the motive behind the shooting. The incident marks the city's fifth homicide of the year.
