In the early morning hours of December 26, 2024, the city of Pueblo was jolted by a violent incident that would be recorded as its 20th homicide of the year. David Modesto Trujillo, a 45-year-old male, was killed in a double shooting on the 1100 block of Egan Avenue. When Pueblo Police officers arrived at the scene around 1:53 a.m., they discovered two male victims.
One man was found conscious with a gunshot wound, while David Trujillo was deceased.
The investigation into the shooting was handled by the Pueblo Police Department's Crimes Against Persons Unit and Crime Scene Investigations. Their efforts led to a significant development in the case a little over a month later. On January 30, 2025, investigators arrested 24-year-old Destiny Trujillo in connection with the homicide.
Destiny Trujillo was subsequently booked into the Pueblo County Detention Center, facing a charge of Second-Degree Murder for her alleged role in David Trujillo's death. Authorities did not immediately release further details about the motive or the circumstances that led to the fatal shooting, nor did they clarify the relationship between the suspect and the victim who shared the same last name.
