In the quiet of a Colorado Springs evening on January 18, 2025, a tragedy unfolded that left two people dead and another wounded. The life of 50-year-old Donte Cross, a Black female, was cut short in what authorities would later describe as a homicide.
The events took place around 10 p.m. at an apartment complex in the 4100 block of Apollo Village Circle, near Airport Road. When officers from the Colorado Springs Police Department arrived at the scene, they discovered the bodies of Cross and 32-year-old Tiana Smith. Both had sustained fatal gunshot wounds. A third woman was also found at the scene with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound and was transported to a local hospital.
As the investigation progressed, the El Paso County Coroner's Office officially identified the deceased. Donte Cross's death was ruled a homicide, while Tiana Smith's death was determined to be a suicide. Authorities have indicated that all individuals involved in the incident have been accounted for, and they are not seeking any outstanding suspects.
