On May 8, 2025, 49-year-old Rickie Campbell, an African American man from Oakland, California, was fatally shot in the city's Dimond District. The incident occurred around 12:41 a.m. in the 3100 block of MacArthur Boulevard, where approximately 15 rounds were fired. Campbell was critically injured and later died at a hospital. Another 49-year-old man, who was acquainted with Campbell, sustained injuries and managed to seek medical attention independently; his condition has not been disclosed.
