On Christmas Day in 2024, a tragic event unfolded in west Phoenix that ended the life of Veronica Alvarez-Ramirez, a 44-year-old woman. She was inside her home in the area of 59th Avenue and Indian School Road when the unexpected violence occurred. Sometime between the hours of 5:00 p.m. and 7:40 p.m., gunfire erupted from outside the residence.
The shots were fired directly into the house, and in the midst of what should have been a peaceful holiday evening, Veronica was struck by the
gunfire. The wounds she sustained proved to be fatal, and she passed away that Wednesday. Her death marked a somber end to a day of celebration, leaving family and friends to grapple with the sudden and violent loss.
In the aftermath of the shooting, the Phoenix Police Department launched a homicide investigation into her death. As of late March 2025, investigators were still seeking information from the public regarding the incident. Authorities have not publicly identified any suspects or made any arrests in the case. To encourage potential witnesses to come forward, the Silent Witness program is offering a reward of up to $2,000 for any information that leads to an arrest in connection with the shooting. The investigation remains ongoing as police work to uncover the circumstances and individuals responsible for her death.
