On the morning of January 27, 2025, the Tucson Police Department received a 9-1-1 call about a deceased person in the area of East 22nd Street and South Park Avenue in Arizona. Officers from Operations Division South responded to search the area and located the body of Andrea Marie Padilla, a 39-year-old Hispanic woman, in a wash near East 21st Street and South Euclid Avenue.
Police observed that she had signs of trauma, and her family was notified of her death.
Detectives from the Homicide Unit were called to the scene to take over the investigation. After processing the scene and conducting initial interviews, investigators determined that Andrea had been involved in a physical confrontation and was fatally shot. Their efforts soon focused on identifying a person of interest in her killing.
The investigation led detectives to name 29-year-old Lorenzo Camacho Cordova as the primary suspect. After establishing probable cause, police obtained an arrest warrant for Cordova for murder on February 6, 2025. For the next three weeks, Community Response Teams from Operations Division South and West worked to find him. On February 27, 2025, officers located Cordova on Tucson’s south side. With assistance from TPD SWAT, he was taken into custody during a traffic stop on West Silverlake Road.
Following his arrest, Lorenzo Camacho Cordova was booked into the Pima County Jail and held on a $1,000,000 bond. Though he was initially facing a murder charge, court documents show he later pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of negligent homicide. On September 22, 2025, Cordova was sentenced to six years in prison. He received 207 days of credit for time served. The case was closed as of his sentencing in September 2025.
