On the evening of April 25, 2025, 33-year-old Armando Vladimir Betancourt-Audia was fatally shot along the Rillito River Park Trail in Tucson, Arizona. The incident unfolded on the bicycle path just east of North First Avenue, a popular route for cyclists and pedestrians. When law enforcement and paramedics arrived, they discovered Mr. Betancourt-Audia with gunshot wounds. Witnesses at the scene directed first responders to his location, and they immediately began to render aid.
He was quickly transported to a nearby hospital, but tragically, he succumbed to his injuries.
Initial investigations by the Tucson Police Department's Homicide Unit revealed that the shooting stemmed from a confrontation that occurred on the bike path. In the immediate aftermath of the incident, the individual responsible for the shooting had fled the area and was not located. Detectives and crime scene investigators remained at the location to gather evidence and piece together the events that led to the deadly encounter. Following a thorough investigation that included the review of forensic evidence, detectives identified 34-year-old Victor Manuel Flores as the suspect in the shooting death of Mr. Betancourt-Audia. An arrest warrant was issued, and on May 1, 2025, Mr. Flores was located on the east side of Tucson. With the assistance of the TPD SWAT team and officers from the Operations Division West/Community Response Team, he was taken into custody. After a brief interview with detectives, Victor Manuel Flores was transported to the Pima County Jail, where he was booked on a warrant for second-degree murder.
