In the early evening of Wednesday, March 19, 2025, a burst of violence on Colgin Street in Mobile, Alabama, claimed the life of 23-year-old Cedric Redd. At approximately 6:28 p.m., police were called to the 1500 block of the street in response to a shooting. By the time officers arrived, Redd had already been transported by a personal vehicle to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Despite medical efforts, he succumbed to a gunshot wound shortly after his arrival.
The investigation into the young man's death quickly led to an arrest. Dequan Thomas, 24, was taken into custody and transported to the Metro Jail. While initially investigated as a homicide, the evidence suggested that the act was reckless rather than intentional, leading to a charge of manslaughter against Thomas. Following his arrest, Thomas was booked into the jail and awaited a bond hearing. The Mobile Police Department has encouraged anyone with further information regarding the case to come forward.
