On August 13, 1974, Paula Atkinson Cupit, a 24-year-old white female employed as a maid at The Abbey Resort in Fontana, Wisconsin, was found brutally murdered in one of the resort's guest rooms. Her body was discovered by a colleague after she had been missing for several hours.
