Agnes George, a 74-year-old white woman, was murdered on August 13, 1987, in San Leandro, California. Her death was part of a series of violent attacks targeting elderly women in the area during the summer of 1987. These crimes were later attributed to Franklin Lynch, a 32-year-old man who became known as "The Day Stalker."
Lynch's modus operandi involved forcibly entering the homes of elderly women, assaulting them, and stealing valuables. The attacks occurred during daylight hours, which led to his nickname. Agnes George was among several victims, including Pearl Larson Norma Marglon Adeline Figuerido Anna Constantin and Marie Lovardi. All were elderly white women living alone.
The investigation into these crimes intensified as patterns emerged linking the cases. In October 1987, Lynch was arrested after neighbors reported suspicious behavior. A search of his residence uncovered items belonging to multiple victims, including Agnes George. This evidence was pivotal in connecting him to the series of murders.
In 1992, Franklin Lynch was convicted of three counts of first-degree murder and two counts of non-fatal assaults. He was sentenced to death and is currently incarcerated at San Quentin State Prison. Despite appeals challenging his conviction and the constitutionality of the death penalty, his sentence remains upheld.
