Carolin Lloyd

Carolin Lloyd, a 76-year-old Black woman, was tragically murdered on May 30, 1991, in Fort Worth, Texas. She was one of three victims in a brutal attack carried out by Edward Lewis Lagrone, a 34-year-old man with a prior murder conviction. The incident occurred in the early morning hours at the Lloyd family residence on Amanda Street, where Lagrone forcibly entered the home armed with a double-barreled pistol-grip shotgun. Upon entry, he shot Dempsey Lloyd, a 48-year-old uncle, in the arm. He then proceeded to fatally shoot Carolin Lloyd, who was blind and bedridden, and her 83-year-old sister, Zenobia Anderson, who was washing clothes in the kitchen. Lagrone also murdered 10-year-old Shakeisha Lloyd, who was 17 weeks pregnant with his child.

The motive behind the killings was linked to a sexual assault complaint filed by Pamela Lloyd, Shakeisha's mother and Lagrone's former girlfriend. After discovering her daughter's pregnancy, Pamela confronted Lagrone, who initially denied involvement but later admitted to molesting Shakeisha and offered financial support for an abortion. Pamela refused his offers and reported the assault to the police. In an attempt to silence the family and prevent prosecution, Lagrone orchestrated the attack.

Following the murders, Lagrone fled the scene but was apprehended shortly thereafter. He was charged with capital murder and, in May 1993, was convicted and sentenced to death. Despite maintaining his innocence, DNA evidence confirmed his paternity of Shakeisha's unborn child, and multiple eyewitnesses identified him as the shooter. Lagrone was executed by lethal injection on February 11, 2004, at the Huntsville Unit in Texas.

The case garnered significant attention due to the heinous nature of the crimes and Lagrone's prior criminal history. He had previously served seven years of a 20-year sentence for a 1976 murder before being released in 1984. The murders of Carolin Lloyd, Zenobia Anderson, and Shakeisha Lloyd highlighted systemic failures in monitoring parolees and protecting vulnerable individuals from repeat offenders.
