On August 29, 1969, six-year-old Gilbert Martinez, a Hispanic boy, was reported missing in San Francisco. According to a six-year-old girl who had been playing with him, Gilbert walked away with a man who offered him ice cream. Shortly thereafter, a man walking his dog discovered Gilbert being sexually assaulted and beaten.
