series of homicides involving young women in San Mateo County in early 1976. However, forensic advancements later revealed that multiple perpetrators were responsible for the killings. In 2017, authorities arrested Leon Melvin Seymour, a convicted sexual predator, after DNA evidence tied him to Lampe's murder. Seymour had a long history of violent crimes, including kidnappings and sexual assaults dating back to the 1970s. His DNA was found on a blood stain on Lampe's jacket, leading to his formal charge.
Seymour was incarcerated at Coalinga State Hospital as a sexually violent predator when he was charged with Lampe's murder. His trial proceedings were delayed due to his health condition, but in 2023, he was found guilty of the crime. The conviction brought closure to a case that had haunted investigators and the community for decades. Lampe's murder, once thought to be part of a larger serial killing spree, was ultimately attributed to Seymour alone.
