Tommy Joe Boling, a 20-year-old man from Chicago, Illinois, tragically lost his life on November 18, 1977. His disappearance and subsequent death were linked to one of the most infamous serial killers in American history, John Wayne Gacy. Boling was among the 33 young men and boys who fell victim to Gacy's horrific crimes. At the time of his disappearance, Boling was living with his wife and their three-year-old son in an apartment near Keeler and Wabansia Avenues.
His sister later revealed that he had been using drugs around the time he went missing.
Boling was identified as 'Body #12' among the remains discovered in the crawl space beneath Gacy's home. His identity was confirmed through dental records and his wedding ring on September 12, 1979. Gacy, a building contractor and former Democratic precinct captain, had lured his victims under various pretenses before subjecting them to unspeakable acts of violence. Many of his victims were strangled and buried beneath his house in Norwood Park Township, Illinois. Boling's remains were found alongside those of Robert Winch, a 16-year-old boy who had also vanished in November 1977.
John Wayne Gacy was indicted for the murder of 33 individuals, making his case one of the most extensive serial murder investigations in U.S. history. His crimes spanned from 1972 to 1978, and he became known as the 'Killer Clown' due to his public performances as a clown before his arrest. Gacy was convicted and sentenced to death, ultimately being executed by lethal injection at Statesville Correctional Center on May 10, 1994.
