Emanuel Gallegos, a 17-year-old male from Chicago, IL, tragically lost his life on February 25, 2019. Emanuel, a student at Northside College Prep, was shot and killed while on his way to get a haircut. The incident occurred in the 4400 block of West Addison Street in Chicago. Emanuel was in a car with friends when Luis Castejon, also 17 at the time, approached the vehicle and fired multiple shots, hitting Emanuel in the neck and body.
Emanuel was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Luis Castejon, who was charged as an adult, was identified as the shooter. Castejon, a member of the Spanish Four Corner Hustlers street gang, had a history of brandishing a gun and was known for his gang affiliations. On the day of the shooting, Castejon and his associates confronted Emanuel's friend, asking about his gang affiliation. When the friend denied any gang involvement, Castejon fired at the car as it drove away, striking Emanuel.
The investigation into Emanuel's death involved tracking down surveillance video and witnesses. Detectives recovered a Snapchat video showing Castejon holding a gun with an extended clip before the shooting. Castejon was arrested and charged with first-degree murder, attempted murder, and aggravated discharge of a firearm into an occupied vehicle. In December 2022, Castejon was sentenced to 40 years in prison for his crimes.
