On June 30, 1994, Dora Ann Thomas, a 46-year-old African-American woman, was found raped and strangled in her apartment in Goldsboro, North Carolina. Her death bore striking similarities to a series of unsolved murders from 1990, in which elderly victims were attacked in their homes. At the time, the perpetrator of these crimes remained unidentified.
It wasn't until 2001 that Linwood Earl Forte, an African-American man born in 1964 and known as 'The Nightstalker,' was arrested for the
1990 murders. DNA evidence linked him to the earlier crimes, and further investigation connected him to the 1994 murder of Dora Ann Thomas. In 2006, prosecutors indicted Forte for her murder, adding to his convictions for the previous killings. Forte was sentenced to death and is currently incarcerated at Central Prison in Raleigh, North Carolina.
