On July 27, 1977, Gustavo Ceballos, a 58-year-old Hispanic male, was among the victims of a brutal mass murder in Carol City, Florida. The incident involved a home invasion where the assailants bound the victims and executed them at point-blank range. This heinous crime is considered one of the most notorious in Florida's history.
The perpetrator, John Errol Ferguson, along with two accomplices, orchestrated the massacre.
Ferguson posed as a power company worker to gain entry into the home. Once inside, he and his accomplices tied up the six individuals present and proceeded to shoot them execution-style. The victims included Gilbert Williams, Johnnie Hall, Henry Clayton, Willie Stokes, and Gustavo Ceballos. Belinda Worley survived by pretending to be dead and later identified Ferguson as the assailant.
Following the incident, Ferguson was apprehended and charged with multiple counts of first-degree murder, among other offenses. He was convicted and ultimately executed by lethal injection on August 5, 2013, at the age of 65. The case remains a stark reminder of the senseless violence that claimed the life of Gustavo Ceballos and others on that tragic day.
