On July 2, 1995, in Dallas, Texas, a series of violent crimes unfolded, culminating in the death of 40-year-old Hispanic male, Jose Morales. That evening, Morales was using a public telephone booth when he was approached by Juan Rodriguez Chavez and his accomplice, Hector Fernandez. Chavez shot Morales, rifled through his pockets to steal his wallet containing $2 and some credit cards, and then shot him again before fleeing the scene.
